End of Faustus

In the last scenes of Dr. Faustus realizes he made a mistake in turning to the dark arts. He was encouraged to repent many times, and the question was is it too late? Since he never did really try to repent until the end of the story, no one really knows. We are left thinking about how far is too far. In the end Faustus lived his life happily with the dark arts but when it was over and he was damned to Hell, he wanted to be forgiven and taken back. He wanted to the have his cake and eat it too, in a sense. He gained knowledge from working with the Devil but didn't want to pay the consequences.
